EC Economic Commission reviews anti-money laundering bill

TEHRAN, Dec. 08 (MNA) – A member of Expediency Council (EC) Hojjatoleslam Gholamreza Mesbahi Moghadam said that the amendment anti-money laundering bill was reviewed in today’s session of Council's Economic Commission.

The session was attended by Laya Joneydi, Vice President for Legal Affairs, representing the government, and Kamal Dehqani Firouzabadi, Vice Chairman of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

The bill had been approved in 2007, said Mesbahi Moghadam, adding, “the government had considered some amendments to the bill, which was referred to the Expediency Council for further consideration after the Guardian Council found some faults with it."

The Guardian Council had found the some parts of the bill inconsistent with the general policies of the Islamic Republic and the Constitution.

The anti-money laundering bill is one of the four bills proposed by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) which Iran is required to endorse in an effort to be removed from the task force's blacklist.
